Once upon a time, there was a Salvadoran girl who lived somewhere in San Francisco, California. Her name was Marta, and she wanted to make the most beautiful basket in the world. Marta began a long trip to visit the magicians of the world...

And so begins the story of Marta and her quest across the world to collect all the items she would need to complete her magic basket. Written by the Spanish poet Carlos Casas and illustrated by Marta Ayala Minero, Marta and the Magic Basket was first published in 2021 by Austen Macauley of New York.

Marta's whirlwind journey takes her to Africa and Antactica, Asia and the Americas and beyond to seek out the magicians of each region to not only collect magical items for her basket, but to receive from each magician wisdom about the world and how to live in it.

This book is envisioned as the first of a series of children's books called "Children of the Same Sun." Carlos and Marta first met in Spain while Marta was visiting there. They decided to collaborate on a children's book and Marta and the Magic Basket was the result. The additional books in the series will continue to have characters that not only have magical adventures, but will also have lessons about how the characters learn to improve their own communities.
