Marta's recent work continues her exploration into mixed media collages. Using photos, textiles, wire, cardboard, stones, dried plants, found objects and ephmera, this new collage work adds a tactile and three dimensional aspect to her canvases while still retaining the core influences seen in her other paintings: bright colors, images from her childhood, the spirit worlds of both Buddhism and the ancient Maya, and just plain whimsy.

The Clay Bags Series began during the pandemic when Marta stumbled upon a stack of burlap bags scavenged from a worksite almost 10 years before. The bags formally held potter's clay. After a good cleaning, Marta experimented with the bags, both painting and adding collage items to them. Since she kept the bags intact, it created a unique "pocketed" art work with space to add fresh or dried flowers, branches with foliage, dried herbs or feathers.

The bags are approximately 15" x 24".

Art work is available for purchase; please contact the studio for pricing information.

Thread Connections

It all started with a box of bobbins found tossed out on the street...

In this series of Marta's work, she has experimented with adding ephemera and three dimensional found objects to her canvases. In this series, inspired by that box of bobbins, Marta goes small and three dimensional, exploring the theme of the interconnectedness of all life. Painted on wood or cardboard and using bright colors, found objects, fabric, tchotchkes and ephemera, these constructions are meant as wall hangings, though some are designed as free-standing sculptures. Most of the pieces are 8" x 11" or smaller.

The Thread Connections constructions are available for purchase; please contact the studio for pricing information.
